The district on the way up
Arguably the best up and coming district in the city, and the subway has not even opened yet.
Mount Pleasant has the momentum right now. The Broadway Subway opens a Mount Pleasant station at Broadway and Main in fall 2027, and it is a short walk to Olympic Village and the False Creek seawall. Put those together and you have a rare mix of transit and lifestyle heading the right direction.
On the Main Street side you get some of the best food and shopping in town, with independent storefronts that actually have character. Push east to Fraser and the neighbourhood changes character completely. That is not a downgrade, it is a different place with its own reason to buy. A real mix, from older walk ups to new builds
Mount Pleasant runs from older low rise apartments to new condos and character homes, so the price range is genuinely broad and depends heavily on the street and the vintage. Is Mount Pleasant your fit?
- Buyers who want to be early. My read: with the subway coming and False Creek at walking distance, this is a pocket with real upside for the person who gets in before it fully arrives. That is my view, not a guarantee.
- Main Street regulars. If your ideal Saturday is a loaf from Batard Boulangerie, sushi at Sushi Hil, a browse through Vancouver Special and a refill stop at The Soap Dispensary, you already live here in spirit.
- Buyers who would rather eat than be seen. Head east to the Fraser Street side and you are in Fraserhood, where Little Saigon sits around the Fraser and Kingsway crossroads. Vietnamese grocers, pho counters, Filipino kitchens, and a food scene locals rate higher than visitors do. Better value per foot than Main, and no shortage of character.
Two streets, two completely different neighbourhoods
Main Street's best
Batard Boulangerie for the bread, Sushi Hil in the Michelin Guide, Vancouver Special for design, The Soap Dispensary for the refill regulars. Main is the eclectic, well fed spine of the neighbourhood, and it prices accordingly.
Fraserhood and Little Saigon
Fraser Street is not a quieter Main. It is its own neighbourhood, with working class roots, deep diversity, and the Little Saigon crossroads at Fraser and Kingsway. Banh mi counters, pho houses and long standing family restaurants sit alongside newer rooms like Les Faux Bourgeois. My read: Fraser now goes toe to toe with Main on food, and it charges less for the privilege.
Walkable to the water
Olympic Village and the False Creek seawall are a short walk away, so the whole waterfront becomes part of your weekend without needing a car.
