The North Shore is the corner of Metro Vancouver where the mountains meet the water and the pace drops a notch. It is really two cities. North Vancouver runs from Lonsdale and Lower Lonsdale up through Edgemont Village and out to Deep Cove, with more trails, newer restaurants, and coffee shops opening all the time. West Vancouver is the calmer, higher end side, built around Ambleside Park, the seawall, and Dundarave, with Park Royal as its retail hub.
Here is how I actually sort buyers between the two. If you work off the North Shore and you would be driving out to Burnaby every day, North Van makes your life easier. If you own a place in Whistler or on Vancouver Island and the North Shore is your home base between trips, West Van fits the logistics better. North Van carries more of the transient energy because people come for the amenities. West Van feels more like friends and neighbours who stay put.
